"But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere. And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace."

- James 3:17-18

"But the wisdom from above is...open to reason..."

Welcome to Day Four!

Kingdom of Priests, the religion that is pure and undefiled before God cares for widows and orphans (Jas. 1:27) and is often revealed in actions like being quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger (Jas. 1:19).  The wisdom from above described as open to reason (or easy to be entreated in KJV) manifests a submission to the precepts of the Word of God (2 Thess. 3:1-2), an attentiveness to the people of God in relationships (Lk. 18:1-5), and a humility to the providence of God in timing (2 Pet. 3:8-13).

The reason we can be ready to listen, congenial, and open to reason is because Jesus Christ has resolutely set his gaze toward us.  As David Powilson helpfully summarized, “The love of Christ for me will get last say. He is merciful to me for his name’s sake, for the sake of his own goodness, for the sake of his steadfast love and compassion (Psalm 25). When he thinks about me, he remembers what he is like, and that is my exceeding joy. My indestructible hope is that he has turned his face towards me, and he will never turn away.” Pray today for one of your closest family members to know God’s love.

May our Triune God establish you in his eternal oath of love (Heb. 6:13-20) as you love well with merciful candidness.
