The Faithful Redeemer: the gospel according to Ruth

During a season of instability and famine, a young woman abandoned her former life and bound herself to her Israelite mother in-law, declaring “Your people will be my people, and your God my God” (1:16).  But Ruth is not the hero in the short book that bears her name.  The LORD God is the true hero.  His merciful providence and faithful provision reveal more than just his disposition to sustain his creation.  The marriage of Boaz to Ruth points to the ultimate Kinsman-Redeemer, Jesus Christ, who has declared to his bride “I will be their God, and they shall be my people” (2 Cor. 6:16).
